The first MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, also a Kerkorian property, opened in 1973 with 2,084 rooms. At the time, this was one of the largest hotels in the world by number of rooms. The Rossiya Hotel built in 1967 in Moscow, for instance, had 3,200 rooms; however, most of the rooms in the Rossiya Hotel were single rooms of 118 sq. Ft (roughly 1/4 size of a standard room at the MGM Grand Resort). On November 21, 1980, MGM Grand suffered the worst resort fire in the history of Las Vegas as a result of electrical problems, killing 87 people. In 1986, Kerkorian sold the MGM Grand to Bally Manufacturing, and it was renamed Bally's.

That is what we mean when we say that the tradeshow industry here in Vegas is in a shambles. We are looking for additional sources of funding/grants to help with those funds should the vendors go out of business. Nevada has moved up in occupancy to 50% or 250 people, whichever is smaller. May 1, barring any increase in Covid numbers, the management of policy will be transferred to local county officials. We won’t be able to answer any additional questions at this time, as we are operating with a skeleton crew and all details are being worked out. Class registration will most likely not open until after the first of the year.

We are doing everything we can to keep Glass Craft & Bead Expo alive and well. We realize that it is impractical to hold the conference this fall, so we are focusing on next Spring to hold the show. We need to wait until it is approved by the State of Nevada to hold meetings of over 50 safely and confirm our dates before we address refunds or roll overs of all fees, so please be patient. We are in communication with the South Point to look at options for next Spring, after Easter. Every Halloween season Las Vegas gets transformed into haunted city, with costume parties, club scenes and halloween contests. If you have the guts to experience the gore, Las Vegas at Halloween might just be the place to be.
Our deepest gratitude for those that have shown their unwavering loyalty, support and patience while we have been navigating through this crisis. It takes the whole glass community to put together this event that is so vital to the industry as well as enjoyed by all that attend. Although Nevada is entering phase 1 on May 9, we are not a phase 1 industry. We are not able to access all of our essential systems from home. We also do not have secure networks from home to process any accounts. We will be back as soon as we are allowed and rest assured that we will be working on options to hold Glass Craft & Bead Expo once it is announced that larger events can be held safely, and will notify every one of those plans.

Because of that, we are still keeping our office closed as we are not able to incur the expenses of office operations, such as utilities and of course salaries. We would like to have the classes and tradeshow early fall but must wait until it is allowed and safe to do so. It is a lot of work to pull this together, which we do not want to initiate until we have the full go ahead from the state.
